While the design itself doesn’t stray too much from the previous MacBook Pro 13-inch model, that’s certainly not a bad thing – with a refined, aluminium chassis, improved keyboard, touch bar, and gorgeous Retina display. It’s priced the same as its predecessor too, and even undercuts its closest competition (Dell XPS 13) by a slight margin, despite its ability to comfortably outperform both laptops.

This is true when using the newer apps designed to be natively run on the M1 chips, but also for ‘legacy’ apps that were designed for the previous generation of Intel processor-powered MacBooks, making it a great performer across the board.

A large part of this success is due to the 5nm processor being built from the ground up by Apple, and hence being able to be optimised specifically for the hardware that the tech giant produces.Īpple totally delivered on its promises with the MacBook Pro, offering vast performance increases over the laptop’s predecessor as well as competing Windows machines in the same category. While the last few additions to the lineup were merely more than refreshes (albeit, still decent laptops), the introduction of the M1 chip is a game changer, promising better overall performance, battery life, and the introduction of new features like iOS app compatibility to the MacBook range. For the first time, the tech giant ditched Intel and its processing chips in favour for its own in-house CPU – the M1 chip.
